Mary Addy, founder of Cultivating Mind Foundation, a non-governmental organization which focuses on street children, the depressed and people with suicidal tendencies has received support from Airtel Ghana to help run her foundation. Among the support she received from Airtel Ghana include the completion of a two bedroom house, LCD TV, toll free line to help reach out to patients, some furniture and agreement to pay for advertorials on radio to reach out to people. The presentation forms part of a promise made by Airtel Ghana under the Touching Lives programme to her when she got nominated by Michael Paddi, a young man she took off the street and fostered as a guardian.
CSR Manager of Airtel Ghana Maame Dufie Cudjoe in making the presentation noted that "what Auntie Mary does is to offer selfless support to people she does not even know; she epitomizes the sort of selfless and humane spirit that we sought to drive in airing Airtel Touching Lives for the whole world to see". Ms. Cudjoe said Mary Addy was helping society in various ways and has been the reason why some depressed people have seen the need to continue to live instead of taking their lives. "We at Airtel Ghana were left without a doubt after reading from Michael Paddi (who nominated her) that she had to be encouraged to continue doing what most people are either unwilling to do, or refuse to do", she said.
Mary Addy said she was excited that Airtel Ghana had recognized her contribution to her community and had come to lend her a hand. "Things are sometimes hard so when Airtel promised to help my team and I were very happy and we are even happier that Airtel Ghana have fulfilled their promise", she said.
