Airtel Ghana has handed over a refurbished three classroom block with offices and a playground to the Salvation Army School at Adaklu Abuadi in the Volta Region. Airtel committed to renovating the school block which had no roof and was collapsing when it was identified as a worthy project under the Touching Lives programme aired earlier this year. Touching Lives is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Airtel Ghana which offers support to communities and people in need.
CSR Director for Airtel Ghana, Fafali Dzobo explained at the handing over of the building to the District Education authorities that when "Ms Yvonne Tsahey (a teacher of the school) wrote to us requesting for roofing, painting and furniture for the school as well as teaching materials, we thought it was a worthy project that needed support."
Ms. Dzobo said Airtel Ghana has renovated the three unit classroom block which was in a dilapidated state as well as adding two offices, chairs, educational materials, swings and a play ground. She added that Airtel is hopeful that these facilities will make teaching exciting for the teachers, and learning, fun for the pupils of this school.
Ms. Dzobo reiterated that education is one of the focal points for Airtel Ghana's corporate social responsibility drive, and the company was happy to have fulfilled its promise given during the Airtel Touching Lives TV series in addition to continuing with its contributions towards the development of education in the country.
The Adaklu District Director of Education, G.K. Agyeman expressed the appreciation of the district to Airtel for lending a hand to the school. He said his office is happy that corporate Ghana is helping provide infrastructure for schools adding that "the children will be very happy to have a new building and other materials that will make their education more interesting". He called on corporate Ghana to emulate Airtel Ghana's example.
