As part of its CSR initiatives, Tigo Ghana has handed over a Street Library Tent to street Library Ghana at Ahwerase community a town near Nsawam, Eastern Region on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
The presentation was the culmination of the company's support for the Street Library Project, a partnership with a Social Entrepreneur, Hayford Siaw under the Tigo Reach for Change initiative.
In a short speech, the Brands Manager of Tigo Ghana, Linda Narh noted that the gesture was a reflection of the company's commitment to children and the youth in Ghana and investing in initiatives that will result in the improvement of their lives.
She noted: "Our children need the opportunity and support to develop to become the future leaders of the nation.
"We at Tigo believe that the Street Library Project will positively impact the lives these young ones."
The Eastern Territory Manager, Stephen Larbi, thanked the chiefs and elders of the community for supporting the Project and giving Tigo the opportunity to impact the lives of the children.
The Chief of Ahwerase, on behalf of the elders of the community, expressed his appreciation to Tigo for supporting the project.
He recounted the positive effects of the project on the children as "they are now eager to take a book and read; not play when they return from school."
After the presentation, some of the children were invited to use the facility. They impressed the large gathering with their reading skills. In rewarding them, the community Imam promptly pledged some chairs towards the Project while the Ewe Chief in the community entreated them to take good care of the facility.
The Street Library Project is one of the projects under Tigo's Reach for Change campaign.
