Some senior management officials and staff of Tigo Ghana on Friday,28th September 2012,spent time with inmates of the Girls' Vocational Training Centre, a division of the Osu Correctional Centre.
The day presented an opportunity for members of the team to interact, mentor and coach inmates of the facility.
The initiative, a partnership with Child Resource and Research Centre (an NGO), is part of Tigo's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes aimed at extending a caring hand to the marginalized and less- privileged in the society.
The team, led by Deborah Akakpo, CSR Manager, advised the girls to take their vocational training seriously in order to improve their lives and future.
During the interaction and mentoring session, the mentors for the day, Silvia Owusu Ankomah, the Regulatory Manager and Faustina Ofosu-Ntiamoah, the Direct Sales Manager, Ashanti Region took turns to share their live experiences with the inmates and further encouraged the girls to be purposeful in all their endeavors.
The Girls' Correctional Facility trains inmates in various vocational disciplines such as hairdressing, catering, and batik tie and dying.
Prior to meeting inmates of the Girls' Correctional Facility, the high-powered team made transit stops to interact with inmates of the other departments of the Centre including the Shelter for Abused Children, the Junior Boys'and Junior Girls' Remand.
The inmates received a variety of Tigo souvenirs including branded books, pens and water bottles. An additional umbrella was given to the girls who answered questions at the end of the session.
The team will, on the last Friday of October this year, spend the day with inmates of the Swedru Remand Centre.
