Accra, October 10, 2012: Airtel Ghana has donated computers to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, as their contribution to the university's Community Impact Programme.
The Community Impact Programme, initiated by the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST in 2010, aims to strengthen the university's relationship with their communities by embarking on programmes that will impact on these communities.
Making the presentation, the Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira reiterated Airtel's commitment to education in Ghana, especially basic education. "Basic education is a fundamental need for every child as it is what sets the child up for success. Airtel therefore is keen on providing the necessary support through various corporate social responsibility initiatives".
Receiving the donation from Airtel, the Chair of the Community Impact Programme, Prof. Frances Owusu-Daaku, expressed the university's gratitude to Airtel for the support towards the CIP initiative. She stated that it was the university's hope that through the project and with the support of their major stakeholders, the university would continue to positively impact society.
The schools that will benefit from this year's initiative are Nana Kwaku Boateng Basic Schools, Koforidua, St. Dominic RC JHS, Adweso, Sarkodee Basic A, Koforidua, and Presby 'A' Junior High School, Koforidua. Some donations were also made to Pope John Senior High School, Effiduase.
