It was a colourful sight to behold on Saturday when hundreds of people gathered at the forecourt of Anigye 102.5FM for the Otumfour 5K Walk and Run Marathon. The event was organised by number one Music and Sports Radio Station in Kumasi Anigye102.5FM in conjunction with the office of the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II. The marathon was to officially launch Anigye FM’s first anniversary celebrations.
Sponsored by MTN, Bisberg Services, Voltic, Sweet Mother Drinking Water, Skyy Digital, Overmars Multimedia Services, Joyful Catering and J-Mart Herbal Clinic, the 5-K marathon event which was supervised by officials from National Sports Council, brought together hundreds of people from Kumasi and surrounding communities, to compete for prizes, souvenirs and products from sponsors.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Station Manger of Anigye 102.5FM Franklin Nuamah said “The Anigye 5-K marathon is to promote healthy living through exercises and games. We are drumming home the need for all of us to exercise regularly. Exercising the human body is a good investment and the rewards are priceless. A healthy mind lives in a healthy body. With a healthy body and mind, people can be truly happy. True happiness is what Anigye FM wants to achieveâ€.
Hitting the grounds for what is to become an annual event, the participants were divided into two groups; walking and running. Starting off from the forecourt of Anigye FM in Adum, participants navigated through the Asafo interchange to Asafo Fetamu, Jubille Park, KTI Junction, and finally ended at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Bright Atta from Asafo, a suburb of Kumasi emerged winner in the walking category while Bright Gyamfi emerged the overall winner in the running category. Both winners took home a Skyy TV Decoder, souvenirs from sponsors and Anigye FM as well as cash prizes. In an interview, Bright Attah said “I have been preparing for this event since I heard the announcement on Anigye FM. I am happy that I am the winner and I am looking forward to next year’s event which I hope to win againâ€.
There were also prizes and souvenirs for the second and third winners. All female participants were also rewarded with souvenirs and products from sponsors.
Management of Anigye FM were also at the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to Otumfuor Osei-Tutu II during the Akwasidae celebrations on Sunday. Other activities lined up to mark Anigye FM’s first anniversary include a clean-up exercise, donations to an orphanage, health screening, an outdoor broadcast, a live band and a thanksgiving service.
