Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam has extended good wishes to the Christian fraternity and the entire nation on the twin occasions of Christmas and the New Year.
He prayed that the occasion would be used to evaluate the activities of the past 12 months, in order to make good and informed decisions in the New Year.
These were contained in a press release from the Office of the National Chief Imam and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday.
"We are grateful to the Almighty Allah that by His divine mercy during the past year, the 2012 general election was conducted peacefully without any violence despite considerable fears and concerns expressed by Ghanaians prior to the elections" it stated.
Sheikh Sharabutu congratulated Ghanaians for ensuring peace and stability before, during and after the December 2012 elections.
He prayed that the grievances expressed by the aggrieved parties in the elections would be resolved peacefully and amicably through the judicial process as enshrined in the 1992 constitution.
The statement said during the campaign prior to the polls, the issue of education took centre-stage and that there was the need to be mindful of the importance of education for the development of the nation.
"We must also endeavour to inculcate in our youth good morals and ethical values because 'an intellectually equipped but morally bankrupt person is very dangerous in a society", it added.
The Chief Imam urged Ghanaians who are capable of donating blood to go to the hospitals and do so in good faith to help save lives and thus contribute to national development.
