The 7th District Commandery of the Knights and District One of Ladies Auxiliary of St. John International, a benevolent society in Catholic Church, on Sunday donated GH¢700.00 cash and used clothing worth over GH¢1,500.00 to the Sirigu Babies Home in the Kassena Nankana Municipal, in Upper East Region.
Other items donated included confectioneries, fruits, mats, toiletries, sachet water, non alcoholic beverages, foot wears, toiletries, bags of rice and maize.
The donation was part of the charity works of the Society as enshrined in its constitution to help the needy.
The Society adopted the Babies' Home over 25 years ago and annualy presented gifts, during the month of December to them.
The 7th District Commandery of the Knights and District One of Ladies Auxiliary of St John International are located in the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese and draws membership from parishes mainly from Navrongo, Bawku and Bolgatanga where there are Commanderies and Auxiliaries.
Major (Dr) Kenneth B. Pelig-Ba, the 7th District Commander and Worthy President of Our Lady of Africa (OLA) Commandery no. 667, reiterated the need to share with the poor and needy in society.
He said the Society would not relent in its efforts to give the necessary support to the inmates, saying that the season of advent was an accession for all to share and put smiles on the faces of those who needed help.
Mrs Victoria Aziriba, Respected President District One and President of Our Lady of Perpetual Help no.343, presenting the items to Reverend Sister Innocentia Debpuur, congratulated the home for the good work and wished the inmates and all workers the best of Christmas.
Rev Sister Debpuur also thanked the Society for their annual sacrifices of visiting and sharing with the inmates of the Home and praying for all for the ensuing years.
She said the Home in 2012 had 19 inmates including three abandoned children and two children delivered by mentally ill mothers with all of them ranging between the ages of two and three years.
Reverend Father Paul Kapochina, Parish Priest of Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Sirigu, in an earlier sermon when the Knights worshipped before the visit to the Babies Home, called on all to prepare their hearts in waiting for the coming of the Lord.
Father Kapochina urged all to live a pattern of good life that was beneficial to all, especially through sharing with those who needed help.
He said to prepare for the advent, one should be humble and avoid assuming positions that were not appointed, saying "Pride leads us away from God".
He also recalled Pope Benedict's message of God's love that enjoined those in positions to help the underprivileged to do so.
