Mr Yussuf Imoru, Brong Ahafo Regional Manager of Islamic Schools, has urged teachers to make effective and judicious use of contact hours so as to improve upon the falling standards of education in the community.
He stressed the need for Moslem parents to offer the necessary financial support and encouragement towards their children's education in order to rise higher and become responsible leaders.
Mr Imoru was addressing parents and teachers of the Bonsu Islamic Primary and Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Nkoranza South District during the 20th Anniversary celebration of the school.
He expressed concern about how Islamic schools closed very early on Fridays for prayers and called on school authorities to revisit the
decision.
Mr Imoru urged Moslem parents to desist from keeping their children in the homes for several days during the celebration of Eid-Ul-Fitr and
Eid-Ul-Adha saying it amounted to wasting precious school days of their children.
Sheikh Harun Appau, National Coordinator of the Islamic Mission Secretariat, called on the Moslem youth to be law-abiding and respectful to
parents and teachers and grow as God fearing and disciplined persons of Ghana.
He called on parents to invest in their children's education and ensure that they did not involve themselves in social vices which could have adverse effects on their lifestyles.
The School Management Committee Chairman, Mr Moro Ahmed, paid special tribute to the teachers who accepted postings to the school as their hard
work had contributed to its growth.
He commended the Islamic Mission Secretariat for encouraging the Moslem Community of Bonsu to establish the school that had produced a number of promising leaders.
Mr. Seidu Alhassan, Headmaster of the School, said the school started with 24 pupils in 1989 and now has a population of 480 students from the primary school to the JHS level.
He said the major problem that the school faced was lack of classrooms for the JHS students and called on the Nkoranza South District Assembly to come to their aid.
Mr Alhassan expressed gratitude to the teachers for their cordial relationships and team work and said their good practices were enhancing
proper academic work in the school.
