Federal and local law enforcement agencies have arrested 14 individuals for their links with a notorious street gang in Tuesday's sweep against organized crime.
In a predawn operation launched in South Los Angeles, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local sheriff's deputies made 14 arrests.
Some of those arrested were charged by the U.S. District Court, and others were wanted for their role in drug trafficking. They are part of the illegal gang Athens Park Bloods and its offshoot.
Crack cocaine and firearms were also seized during the operation. Federal, state and local officials in Los Angeles have staged a series
of crackdowns against street gangs, who are accused of running drug rings and terrorizing neighborhoods.
The FBI has already arrested 20 members or associates of the Athens Park Bloods gang. They face up to five years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
