Taliban militants raided a police checkpoint in Arghandab district of Kandahar province in south Afghanistan, killing eight policemen, a police officer said Monday.
"A group of armed insurgents raided police checkpoint in Shaheen area of Arghandab district Sunday night, killing eight police constables," the
officer told Xinhua, but he declined to be identified.
However, provincial police chief Sardar Mohammad Zazi confirmed the incident, saying investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Taliban purported spokesman Qari yusuf Ahmadi in talks with media via telephone from an undisclosed location claimed responsibility for
the attack, saying over 10 policemen were killed in the attack.
