The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region, is to construct an office for the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bolgatanga Constituency, to enable him work effectively.
This came to light when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Epsona Ayamga addressed the District Oversight Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), at a forum held at Bolgatanga at the weekend.
The MCE said that if complete the office would enable the MP to have a convenient place to meet constituents and to address their needs.
Mr Ayamga said even though his door was opened for discussions he would only entertain people who would approach him with issues concerning development and expressed worry that some people trooped to his office with frivolous issues that could not contribute to development.
The MCE assured the people that roads in the Municipality would be rehabilitated and offices given a facelift.
Mr. Ayamga said that the Assembly was collaborating with Zoomlion Waste Company, a private waste management Ccmpany, to improve on sanitation in the Municipality and indicated that a damping site had been created at Serigu, a
suburb of Bolgatanga.
He commended the APRM for instituting its Oversight Committee to work in the Municipality and said it would help the Assembly to plan on
developmental projects and help the people to participate in the development and decision-making process.
The Executive Secretary of APRM, Dr Francis Appiah said that the activities of the APRM were aimed at monitoring and evaluating the performance of all Assemblies in the country.
He said that it was also to assist the Assemblies to plan properly to meet the needs of the people.
Dr Appiah noted that Ghana had chalked a lot of success at the international level because of its good governance practices, which should
be sustained to become to inspire other countries.
He urged the Oversight Committee to sustain its good work in the region. Some of the areas the Committee monitored and evaluated included
education, agriculture, economics, health among others and pointed out problems and suggested solutions.
