Directors of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) at their meeting in Ho have observed that any development strategy not built on the culture of the people was not likely to be effective.
A resolution adopted after the two-day meeting stressed that culture was the bedrock of any society, a reflection of the people, and that all projects must reflect it or it would fail.
The Directors complained about the very low attention being given to the CNC in spite of the important role arts and culture played in national unity, cohesion and development.
They called on the sector Minister to tackle the problems of low wages and poor institutional development faced by the CNC.
The resolution noted that theatres started 20 years ago remained uncompleted because of low budgetary allocation to the CNC over the years.
The theatres when completed, the resolution said, would offer employment to young people in the culture industry and generate revenue for the CNC.
The CNC directors called on the Sector Minister to facilitate the successful celebration of this year's National Festival of Arts and Culture slated for Tamale.
