A 50-member "Birim Central Municipal Electrical Association," has been inaugurated with a call on the members to uphold, preserve, protect and defend the dignity and integrity of the electrical profession.
The Association has Mr Kwesi Asare, Mr Newton Asare, Mr Robert Atoa and Mr Dan Owusu Appiah as Chairman, vice Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
Others include Mr Rockson Mensah, Financial Secretary; Mr Eric Charway, Treasurer; Mr Frederick Adu Gyamfi, Organizer; Mr Kojo Frempong and Mr Vincent Nyarko as porter.
Inaugurating it at Akim Oda, Apostle Charles H. Bruce from the House of Salvation Prayer Ministry further called on the electricians to observe the electrical bye-laws regulating the practice of the profession.
He advised the nine-member executive of the Association to use their knowledge and skills to the best of their ability for the benefit of the entire Association in particular and the municipality in general.
In a goodwill message, Mr Yaw Owusu Boateng, Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, asked electricians in the municipality to keep abreast with electrical development technologies and maintain professional competency.
Mr Boateng said it was good to have mobilized themselves to form an association and cautioned that "unionism is the key to socio-economic development of the individual," and so they should exhibit the qualities of excellence and high standards in executing contracts, adding that, in this way they would be accorded public trust and confidence.
Mr. Henry Richardson, Municipal Engineer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) urged the association and other technocrats to be prudent in their activities and they should also desist from delaying contracts and avoid poorly executed jobs.
Mr Augustus Enim Attafuah, a lawyer and proprietor of A.E.A. School Complex at Akim Oda, who is a patron of the association advised the members to endeavour to render quality service to their customers. They should also ensure to take precautionary measures in the performance of their duties.
Mr Kwesi Asare, Chairman of the Association later told the GNA that the import of the association was to help to promote and maintain high professional standards and ethics in the practice of electrical profession in the municipality.
