A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody, a 27 year old ex-employee of KESSBEN Travel and Tours, for allegedly collecting 210,000 Ghana Cedis from six people under the pretext of securing them visas.
Atta Paynin Yeboah pleaded guilty and would reappear on June 23, 2009.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Nana Amofah told the court presided over by Mr Eric Baah that the accused and the complainants resided in Kumasi.
He said the accused in 2008 and earlier this year collected the amount from the six complainants and promised to secure them America and Ireland visas but failed and went into hiding.
On April 9, 2009 at about 4:50pm, one of the complainants spotted the accused at Asokwa, a suburb of Kumasi and was arrested by the police.
Prosecution said the other five complainants upon hearing the arrest went to the police station to lodge a complaint.
Yeboah in his caution statement admitted the offence and was released on bail to be reporting daily pending further investigations but he again went into hiding.
He has however been able to refund 1000 Ghana Cedis out of the amount.
