Mr Ben Peprah Amoabeng, National Chairman of Progressive Transport Owners Association, (PROTOA) has urged members to embrace the new policy on road transport to make vehicular movement fluid in the cities.
Under the policy certain routes in the cities with special lanes are solely for scheduled bus shuttles by corporate transport companies.
Mr Amoabeng made the call when addressing the newly elected executives of PROTOA in Volta Region at Ho on Friday.
He said under the policy which had been on the drawing board for sometime, people driving into the cities might have to leave their vehicles at safe depots and join buses into the city centre to transact business and return to take their vehicles.
Mr Amoabeng assured members that the association was non-partisan and their jobs were not being threatened because PROTOA was established in 1980 to compete in the transport industry.
He noted that PROTOA would always be ahead of other transport unions through pursuing a distinctive management system that would make it flourish.
Mr Amoabeng said the competitive strength of PROTOA was its continual training, social security schemes for drivers, personal insurance plans and re-training of erring drivers.
He asked members to pay their taxes and levies promptly as their civic responsibility.
Mr Amoabeng later inspected off-loading sites of the association in Ho, Kpando and Hohoe.
Mr Victus Tetteh, Organisational Service Provider for PROTOA in Volta Region said efforts were being made to address problems facing members.
He said Ho Municipal Assembly was expected to demarcate specific loading areas for the various drivers' unions.
Mr Ben Katsekpor is Volta Regional Chairman of PROTOA, Mr Isaac Amenyo, Vice-Chairman, Mr Cephas Exe, Secretary, Mr Joe Komada, Treasurer and Mr Felix Kudekpo and Executive Member.
