Push It. Shoop. Whatta Man. Their songs are legendary - as are the record sales and awards: Twelve million records sold. A Grammy for Best
Rap Performance (the first ever by female rappers) and three MTV Video Music Awards - and that's just for starters! This month the girls are
back with their very own series, The Salt-N-Pepa Show on DStv.
Then in 2002, at the height of their success, Salt-N-Pepa called it quits. No one was ever quite sure why. Rumours circulated that Salt had
found God and that Pepa wanted to pursue an acting career. Even as the speculation grew, the girls remained silent. Until The Salt-N-Pepa Show
came along to give the duo's millions of fans around the world insight into what happened, what the two have been up to since, and what the future holds.
It's no secret that Salt-N-Pepa have fans aplenty throughout Africa - and so the screening of the full season of The Salt-N-Pepa Show on
Channel O (DStv channel 320) is a real coup, and bound to have fans glued to their television sets each Sunday, (starting February 15) at 19:00 CAT. Determined to give their music career one more shot, The Salt-N-Pepa Show proves that getting back together is easier said than done - even for artists who left it all behind when they were blazing hot.
What makes the show so fascinating is that most of Salt and Pepa's issues are still unresolved. Salt is still mad because she thinks she
did all the work - and was never appreciated. Pep's still angry that Salt broke up the group - and that she did it by calling Pep in the
middle of a pedicure!
And, believe it or not, they have never spoken to each other about why they broke up in the first place. Adding to the action is the fact that
Cheryl 'Salt' James Wray and Sandy 'Pepa' Denton are so different.
Sandy's still a party girl and is up for anything.
She appeared in The Surreal Life (Season 5) and was voted the most popular member of a cast that included Janice Dickinson, Jose Conseco and Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. As The Salt-N-Pepa Show reveals, she desperately wants to re-capture the glamour and glory of the old days.
Meanwhile Cheryl's life has gone in a completely different direction.
She lives a quiet life in Long Island where she has shunned the spotlight and has devoted much of her life to God. Most importantly she's not sure if she's going to be able to reconcile the group's old attitude with her new found spirituality.
Can the duo overcome their past differences? Will they be able to heal their friendship? And of course, can they work together again without
killing each other? It's the Odd Couple, but with women... who rap...
oh, and it's completely real.
Tune in for The Salt-N-Pepa Show from Sunday February 15 at 19:00 CAT on
Channel O, channel 320, on DStv.
