A security man who assaulted his ex-fiancée resulting in severe facial injuries because she had failed to answer his telephone calls was on Monday sentenced to 24 months' imprisonment by a Circuit Court in Accra.
Hope Awadzi pleaded guilty to engaging in behaviour or conduct that endangers the safety, health or well being of another person.
The court further asked him to pay GH 500 cedis as compensation to the victim, Mary Aggor.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lawrence Gbele told the court that the victim and the accused had lived together for three-and-a-half years with the intent of getting married.
ASP Gbele said Awadzi, however, informed the victim that he was no more interested in the marriage and the two separated.
Awadzi went to the victim's step father and collected items he had bought for her.
After the separation, Awadzi continued to call the victim on her cell phone and she declined to answer the calls.
On December 6, last year, at about 2000 hours Awadzi called the victim on her cell phone on several occasions but she declined to answer.
She then asked her brother to pick up the call and he warned Awadzi to stop disturbing her sister.
This infuriated Awadzi who went to her house the following day at about 0630 hours.
The prosecution said Awadzi pounced on the victim, held her hair and hit her face several times with his head and assaulted her mercilessly.
