A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded four men into prison custody for allegedly stealing food items worth over GH¢12,000.
The accused persons; Akrugu Frafra, Charles Andani, Apraka Ayambila and Joseph Nyando pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing and they will re-appear before the court on January 21, 2009.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court, presided over by Mr. D.P.W. Amedior that the accused persons are squatters in front of the Food Distribution Corporation Warehouse located at Dote, a suburb of Kumasi.
She said the complainant, Manager of the Moneyman Company Limited, dealers in food items detected theft of various items in his warehouse and instituted his own investigations through which Frafra a watchman in the neighbourhood was found to be the brain behind it.
A report was made to Buffalo Unit of the Police and during investigation, Andani and Ayembila were arrested.
Frafra in his caution statement admitted the offence and mentioned Nyando as his accomplice.
Nyando also told the police that it was three others at large who masterminded the operation and had duplicate keys of the warehouse.
After investigation, the four were charged and arraigned while the three other are being sought.
