The Executive Officer of the Intervention Forum, an NGO that promotes the welfare of women in the Central Region, Mrs Nora Ollennu, has appealed to the government and other NGOs to give more financial support to women to help them become self supporting.
She said survey by her outfit indicated that most women have become single parents and had to struggle to feed themselves and children.
Mrs Ollennu made the appeal at a day's forum on 'Social, Economic and Educational Rights of Women and the Girl Child' at Awutu Mankessiem, a suburb of Bawjiase.
Sixty participants from Obreachere, Ekuropong, Mankesseim and Bawjiase, made up of chiefs, queen mothers, women groups and civil society attended the forum organised by Intervention Forum and sponsored by Pamoga Network, Ghana/RAVI.
Mrs Ollennu expressed regret that despite the important role women play towards nation building, most of them continue to live in poverty, adding that despite this, women are also subjected to so many human rights abuses.
She urged participants to utilize resources at their disposal judiciously.
