Mr Philip Kwabena-Adade, National Co-ordinator of St John Ambulance on Thursday appealed to the government to formulate a policy that would make all and sundry knowledgeable in first aid skills.
He said many deaths that occurred after accidents and disasters were partly because rescuers lacked the essential skills to save a life.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, Mr
Kwabena-Adade said accident scenes might be far away from the hospital or clinic and it was only a trained first aid person who could revive the sufferer.
The implementation of such a policy would create the enabling environment for investors because they would be assured of first aid when there was a disaster, he said.
For a start, Mr Kwabena-Adade said, government should impress upon educational institutions to include first aid in school curricula while businesses should also include it in their developmental programmes.
He said Saint John Ambulance had the personnel to train those ready for first aid lessons adding that the current wave of accidents made it compulsory for the formulation and implementation of the policy.
