A day's capacity building workshop for 25 stakeholders in health from five communities in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) has ended at Breman Asikuma.
The programme organised by Humanitarian Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), was aimed at equipping participants with requisite knowledge to help educate the people on the dangers of HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The participants were made up of community health volunteers, assembly members, opinion leaders, AIDS education committee's members and farmers.
The facilitators took participants through topics including Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), Stigmatization, HIV/AIDS competency, usage of condom, behavioural change communication, and positive living.
Dr Luiz Ammoussou-Gohoungo, District Health Service Director, appealed to parents of AIDS victims not to neglect them, but should offer them the necessary assistance, adding that, disowning them will psychologically make them die early.
Mr Theophilus Ribeiro, District AIDS Focal Person, advised the public to be mindful of their sexual habits, so as to avoid contracting the disease.
He advised partners to be faithful to each other and practice condom use to avoid contracting the HIV/AIDS virus and other Sexually Transmitted diseases (STD).
Madam Lydia Appiah, Coordinator of the NGO, advised the participants to used the knowledge gained at the workshop to help fight against the spread of the disease at their various communities.
