Dressmakers and tailors in the country have been called upon not to encourage their clients to expose parts of their nakedness as doing so defies the profession.
Mr Daniel Setsoafia, National vice President of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), said dressmakers must advice their clients against requesting for designs that would expose their private parts.
He said it is appalling to see people especially ladies wearing dresses that expose their nakedness and appealed to members of GNTDA to put a stop to designing such clothing in order to maintain their dignity in the industry.
Speaking at the graduation of 45 ladies of the Ashaiman Zone One branch of the association, Mr Setsoafia appealed to the Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders not to only concentrate on supporting tertiary students but should also provide allowances and other support to apprentices because they also contribute to the economy through the payment of taxes and levies to the district assemblies.
Madam Charity Asiedu, Ashaiman Zonal President, said the branch had produced 793 tailors and dressmakers over the past nine year as well as open four zones in the Ashaiman municipality.
She appealed to the government, Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and the traditional leaders to support the association with land to be used for the construction of a resource centre to train more tailors and dressmakers.
She said currently apprentice undergo a three-year training and write the association examination before graduating.
