Members of the Public Health Technical Officers/Nurses Group (PHTOG), has been advised to make agitations for salary increment a thing of the past, and rather make themselves relevant to quality health service delivery to build a healthy nation.
Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health who made the remark said this is because the PHTOG officers, who comprised of disease control and nutrition officers, have crucial roles to play to complement the effort of other health partners to ensure quality health delivery.
Dr Asare made these statements during the maiden Annual General Meeting (AGM), of the sector held in Kumasi under the theme "The Milestone of Achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDG) 6, The Role of PHTOG Officers of Ghana".
Among the topics discussed at the AGM were the milestone of guinea worm eradication in Ghana, disease control and prevention, buruli ulcer and malaria, and non communicable diseases among others.
Dr Asare pointed out that, the achievements of the ministry was directly linked to the public health, community health and other health sectors, adding that the duties of the public health technical officer was crucial to both the Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health.
He also called on the group to enhance their technical abilities to control the upsurge of malaria increases.
Mr Douglas Brenya, the National President noted that the group, which is 1,500 in number, has a vision of laying down strong conditions of professionalism, based on ethics and values, and foster a mindset environment for innovation and ensure the welfare of its members.
Dr Alhaji Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, the in-coming Ashanti Regional Director of Health, advised the members to set good examples in their communities, by keeping their own homes and environment clean.
He also admonished them to adhere to the values of the GHS, by exhibiting a sense of professionalism, discipline and people centeredness.
