Dormaa Municipal Assembly has reiterated its commitment to support all identifiable disabled societies in the area to enable their members to lead meaningful lives.
The Assembly stressed that it would not deal with individual disabled persons and entreated all such persons in the municipality to join respective disabled associations under the Ghana Federation of the Disabled.
Mr. Atta Amponsah, Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, gave the assurance when a delegation from Dormaa branch of Ghana Federation of the Disabled called on him in his office at Dormaa Ahenkro.
The delegation, led by its Chairman, Mr. J.O. Binsere, congratulated the MCE on his appointment and wished him well in the discharge of his duties.
They also thanked the government for making it mandatory for every Assembly under the 1992 constitution to set aside a fraction of the common fund for the welfare of the disabled.
They however, added that efforts to access this mandatory financial assistance for the past four years had not yielded any positive results and appealed to the MCE to give the constitutional provision a serious look.
The delegation announced that their groups were ready to engage in income-generating activities to improve their living standards.
Mr. Binsere on behalf of his colleagues appealed to prospective estate developers to cater for the needs of the disabled during the construction of offices and homes.
