A Palestinian gunman from the radical Islamic Jihad faction was killed by Israeli gunfire in the northern West Bank on Thursday, Israeli military sources said.
The Palestinian was killed as he opened fire on soldiers from within a house special forces were surrounding in a village near the northern town of Tulkarem.
Israeli troops later bulldozed the house and discovered the body of the Palestinian in the rubble, the sources added.
The Israeli military said the Palestinian was wanted in connection with last month's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, that killed five Israelis and shadowed an informal ceasefire declared by Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
Palestinian officials named the victim as Mohammed Abu Khazneh, 28, and said he belonged to Islamic Jihad, confirming that Israeli troops bulldozed part of the house from which the militant had been firing.
His death brings to 4,744 the total number of people killed since the beginning of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000, including 3,684 Palestinians and 986 Israeli.
