The government has directed all public institutions to comply with the minimum 30% representation of women, as required under the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 (Act 1121).

The directive seeks to correct longstanding gender imbalances, particularly in decision-making positions.

Speaking at the Second Annual Conference for Women in Leadership in the Public Sector on Wednesday, February 18, the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, affirmed the government’s commitment to institutionalising gender equity and increasing women’s representation to 50% by 2030.

“His Excellency has directed that public service agencies ensure a minimum of 30% female representation in leadership positions by this year, with an increase to 50% by 2030.

“This directive is a deliberate policy measure to advance the objectives of the Affirmative Action Act and institutionalise gender equity as a cornerstone of our development agenda,” she said.
