The Nanton District Assembly in the Northern Region on Thursday handed over 450 school desks to Ghana Education Service in the district for distribution to various schools in the area.
The presentation formed part of the assembly’s efforts to improve teaching and learning environment in public basic schools across the district

At a ceremony to hand over the desks here in Nanton, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs Rosina Zenabu Abdul -Rahaman, said this was in line with the government resetting agenda in the country.
She indicated that the intervention reflected the government’s commitment to rebuilding and strengthening key sectors of the economy, particularly education under the
The DCE said quality of education remained a cornerstone of national development and a key focus of the Nanton District and beyond.
She stated that the presentation was not about the desks but was about restoring dignity in their various classrooms and creating an environment that supported effective teaching and learning.
“It forms part of the broader Resetting Agenda of President John Dramani Mahama, to reposition education as a driver of national transformation,” she stated.
The DCE added that the presentation was to address furniture deficits in several basic schools across the district where inadequate seating had negative impacted on the learning of the pupils
She told the GES officials to distribute the desks fairly to the schools based on their identified needs.
She also urged the school authorities to ensure proper usage and maintenance to guarantee the longevity of the desks in the schools
The DCE, however, commended the teachers and administrative staff of GES in the district for their dedication and resilience in delivering quality education to their wards, in spite of the challenges.
Furthermore, she assured them of the government’s commitment to implementing national policies and initiatives to improve educational infrastructure and logistics in the country.
The Nanton District Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Yussif Musah, who received the desks on behalf of the schools, thanked the assembly for the gesture.
He said the intervention was timely and would significantly reduce furniture shortages in schools and enhance teaching and learning in the district, adding that it demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving basic education at the grassroots level.
