The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has warned against a fraudulent online scheme claiming to offer GH¢50,000 under a so-called MOFA CARES, 2025 National Empowerment Programme.
The ministry in a press statement issued Friday (Dec 19, 2025) said the programme did not exist and that unsuspecting members of the public had been targeted by scammers seeking personal and banking information.
“We have received reports of a scam circulating online that calls on citizens to submit their bank details and personal information. This programme is entirely fictitious,” the statement said.
The ministry also urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify information through official channels.
MOFA confirmed that the scam falsely attributed the initiative to the President John Mahama administration, seeking to exploit the public’s trust.
“We urge citizens to always consult the ministry’s official website or contact our Public Relations Unit before engaging with any such claims,” the press statement said.
It further indicated that the scam had circulated widely on social media platforms, and several individuals had reportedly been approached with promises of financial support.
Caution
The ministry said the scammers used an email address, [info@mofa-gh.online] (mail to: info@mofa-gh.online), and a contact named Professor Albert Kwame to lend credibility to their fraudulent operation.
“We strongly advise the public not to respond to any messages from this source or share any personal identification. No fees or charges should be paid under this pretence.
“The warning highlights the growing need for citizens to exercise caution online and verify the authenticity of government programmes before providing sensitive information,” the statement said.
The statement, however, stated that it had documented those incidents and was working with relevant agencies to track and prevent further occurrences.
It stressed that all legitimate empowerment programmes would be announced officially and communicated through verified channels.
