The Church of Pentecost (COP) has commissioned a newly well-equipped hospital in Bolgatanga, the regional capital of the Upper East Region to complement healthcare delivery services.
According to the church, the establishment of the Pentecost Hospital was a remarkable journey born out of necessity and driven by a collective vision to enhance quality healthcare in the region.
Located in Kumbagre, the 35-bed facility, which was fully funded by the church has labour, male, female and children wards and other essential wards, consulting rooms, dispensary and laboratory. Others are an out patient department, washrooms, changing rooms, among others.
The story behind the construction of the facility began in 2018, when Pastor John Ofori of Wiaga District, together with his family of six and a newly posted minister to Siniensi, Pastor Godwin Kpobi, were involved in a car accident at the outskirts of Bolgatanga.
After being rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, the medical staff had a daunting task stabilising their conditions before transferring them to Tamale Teaching Hospital and Duayaw Nkwanta Catholic hospital which took 16 hours to reach.
This development compelled the Church of Pentecost, Bolgatanga Area, to consider the idea of having a clinic to support the delivery of quality health care in the region.
The Area Head of Teshie Nungua, Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah, who was then also serving as the Area Head of Bolgatanga, after his transfer to Teshie Nungua, mobilised the area to financially make the thought of constructing the health facility in the community a reality.
Currently, the church is also constructing five additional health facilities including a specialist hospital in Accra which are at various stages of completion.
Commissioning the hospital yesterday the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, said the project formed part of the implementation of the "Possessing the Nations" agenda launched by the church in August 2018.
The Chairman said the Church operates an impressive network of 12 healthcare facilities, including four hospitals and eight clinics, with a committed staff of 1,199 catering for more than 234,516 outpatients annually.
The Executive Director, Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr Peter Kwame Yeboah, while commending the church for the project, called for continuous investment in the hospital to deliver on its mandate.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, commended the church for the facility as it would serve as a cornerstone in the improvement of maternal and child health care.
In a remark, the Paramount Chief of the Nangodi Traditional Area, Naba Napariyong Kosom Asaga Yelzoya II, lauded the church for the project and urged other churches to take a cue and undertake similar facilities to complement the efforts of the government.
