The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu yesterday inaugurated the governing council for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) at his office in Accra.
The 11-member council is composed of the National President, Mr Michael Abbiw, Vice President, Ama Gifty Amoah, National Secretary, Edwin Letsa Kpedor, National Treasurer, Dr Dr Francis Mensah Sasraku and Registrar, Kwabena Akuamoah Agyekum.
Other members are Hilda Peasah, Kwasi Kyere, Norrender Wordie Debrah, and Immediate past President, Dr Daniel Kasser Tee, Mr Mawuli Segbefia and Stella Akosua Ansah.
Inaugurating the council, Mr Iddrisu said the council must explore ways of designing a satisfaction survey to assess the perception of Ghanaians in terms of services delivered to them.
He explained that such a survey would help service providers know whether the larger Ghanaian populace was satisfied with the services they provide or not.
“Are Ghanaians satisfied with the provision of customer service satisfaction, whether the service is delivered by doctors or by nurses or by private sector or telephone service providers or by the Ghana Standards Board or Food and Drug Board, regulatory authority on food and standard of technical things,” he said.
According to the Minister many of the government service providers, be it water or electricity, take the Ghanaian consumer and customer for granted and this must be corrected.
“You need to correct that impression, and that impression can only be corrected with your sharpened skills of marketing so that the consumer as you know growing up, we all learned that the consumer is a king,” he emphasised.
In addition to the customer satisfaction survey, he said CIMG must also spearhead the institutionalisation of annual citizen accountability forums where agencies would be made to report back to the people they serve.
This he said must be backed by customer data and feedback, stressing that “Let us know that those providing us with these services, there is feedback from them and we are able to measure whether we are satisfied with what is it that they are doing or not.”
Mr Abbiw on his part pledged the council’s commitment to working with the government to achieve the national dream of development.
He said the call for institutionalisation of customer satisfaction survey was welcoming and would be high on the agenda of the council.
