Major changes to the way courses are delivered at Coventry University are set to be introduced as part of its innovative approach to make studying more flexible.
The changes will see all campus-based study moved to six intakes across the academic year. The six-week teaching block method is a transformative break from the traditional term and semester model followed by much of the sector.
Coventry University Group has long been at the forefront of block teaching with CU Coventry, CU Scarborough and CU London (Dagenham and Greenwich) campuses already delivering this innovative approach. The approach has been adopted, or copied, elsewhere, though not on the scale Coventry University will now enact.
From this September, postgraduate taught provision across Coventry University Group will move to six intakes per year, with undergraduate courses set to follow suit in September 2026, opening opportunities for accelerated degrees and growth in student numbers.
With more intakes, students will have the flexibility to begin their studies at different times throughout the year, rather than having to follow the traditional term and semester model.
The change will allow the Group to continue running smaller courses that other universities may be closing, while offering greater start date flexibility to students.
Following each six-week study block, students will see their work assessed in the seventh week, while the modules are delivered on a carousel model, allowing learners to begin their studies at the intake that is right for them.
Coventry University has never been afraid to do things differently and believes this approach will support more students to progress and complete their courses and increase student satisfaction.
Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University and Group CEO, said: "These changes are all about giving added flexibility to students who want to benefit from the qualifications Coventry University Group is able help them achieve. While our CU locations have long offered six-week teaching blocks, we are now rolling out this model across all of our campuses, having seen how popular and effective this approach has proved.
"Our key focus is preparing our students for a fulfilling and productive career in their chosen field and we believe these changes help us to do that, while offering a huge degree of flexibility for those exploring the incredible life-transforming opportunities higher education can offer."
