A 15-member Jamaican delegation last Thursday paid a courtesy on the Paramount Chief of the Gbese Mantse, Nii Dr Ayi Bonte II, as part of their tour of the country.
The delegation, led by Mr Frank Wiggan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maroon Ventures, a Travel and Tour Company based in Jamaica, is to retrace their roots and understand the cultural similarities between the two countries.
They are also to explore business opportunities and find ways to collaborate with their local counterparts in that direction.
Welcoming the delegation to his palace, Dr Nii Ayi Bonte said the history of the two countries were intertwined making the people of the same ancestry.
He said such visits were not only symbolic but also reflective on the bond between blacks on the continent and their brothers and sisters in the diaspora.
Nii Ayi Bonte explained to the delegation that Gbese, apart from being the Adonten of the Ga state was also one of the biggest and most important clans within the state.
He said the numerous relics of the slave trade found in his traditional area demonstrated the link between his people and other blacks in the diaspora, including that of Jamaica.
Nii Gbese said his traditional area was ready to welcome their sons and daughters in the diaspora as well as offer them the opportunity to invest in the area.
On his part the head of delegation, Mr Wiggan, said the visit by the delegtion was not only for members to retrace their bloodline but also spiritual.
He indicated that his outfit was planning to make such visits to the country twice per year, stressing that “It is to afford Jamaicans the opportunity to visit here and have the experience.”
Mr Wiggan outlined that they were ready to explore business opportunities in the country and invest in them since that was the only way they can contribute to the development of their root.
“We have three things that we’re trying to operate in Ghana. One is business development which is to bring business to Ghana. Obviously that’s employment and stimulate the economy so there’s some Jamaican businesses that have interest and we represent them,” he said.
Moreover, he said his outfit was also planning a trade mission in October and this would bring a lot of businesses from the Caribbean to look at opportunities to invest in Ghana.
