The Association of Certified Driving Instructors of Ghana (ACDI-GH), has called on corporate institutions to invest in defensive driving training for their staff.
This will help to make driving safer, reduce the risk of accidents, and ultimately save money.
The President of the association, Marshall Bobobee, made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the executives of the association.
They have been elected to serve an initial three-year term.
Executives
The other elected executive members of the association are Isaac Obour, First vice-president; Francis M. Bantey, as Financial Secretary; Victor Bruce-Crabbe, Research,
Training and Development; Reuben A. Gaglo, First Communications Officer, and Solomon Friday Narh Lamptey, Organising Secretary.
Mr Bobobee, who is also the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) National Best Instructor for 2023, also appealed to institutions to support initiatives that promote industry-specific driver education.
“Safe and defensive driving must be everyone’s business because it makes the roads safer, it helps prevent accidents and protect lives and thereby cut down on cost in either vehicle repairs, insurance payment and more importantly, preserving human lives,” he stressed.
Investment
The president also called for increased investment in driver training programmes and reforms to create more job opportunities for instructors and entreated the government, corporate entities and the media to collaborate with the association to enhance road safety.
“To the government, we seek your continued partnership and support to ensure that road safety remains a national priority.
“We also ask for the necessary reforms and investments in our industry to improve training programmes and create more job opportunities,” he said.
Mr Bobobee, who is the Head of Operations at the Precise Driving School, also encouraged the media to use their platforms to highlight road safety issues, raise awareness of industry developments, and collaborate on public education campaigns.
“As noted by the Director of Driver Training, Testing, and Licensing (DTTL) of the DVLA, Kafui Semevo, there is already a shortage of certified instructors and so if no pragmatic steps are taken, the situation will only worsen,” he said.
