The Office of the President has issued a directive to all heads of government institutions, requesting comprehensive details of staff added to their payrolls since December 7, 2024. 

The move forms part of the John Mahama administration’s efforts to enhance transparency and ensure the accuracy of government payroll records. 

In a letter dated January 15, 2025, and signed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the directive outlined the administration's commitment to addressing payroll inefficiencies and improving financial management within the public sector.  

“This information is critical to maintaining transparency and accountability in our payroll management processes,” Mr Debrah stated in the letter.  

 

Details to be submitted  

Heads of institutions are required to provide specific details for each staff member added within the specified period, including:
  
- Full Name  
- Designation/Job Title  
- Employee Identification Number (if applicable)  
- Date of Appointment  
- Date Added to Payroll  

The requested information is to be submitted to the Office of the Chief of Staff no later than January 31, 2025.  

“Your cooperation in this important matter is highly appreciated,” the letter emphasised, adding that institutions are encouraged to contact the Office of the President for any clarification or support needed during the process.  

This initiative aligns with the broader strategy of the Mahama administration to address financial inefficiencies by eliminating ghost names from government payrolls.

Stakeholders are being urged to comply promptly to ensure the integrity of payroll records and to safeguard public funds.  

The directive is one of several measures aimed at promoting accountability within government systems. By streamlining payroll management, the Mahama administration seeks to reinforce trust in public financial administration while addressing systemic challenges in the public sector.
