The Ashanti North Region of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) has held an awards ceremony to honour some of its outstanding customers in the region for their loyalty and prompt payment of water bills to the service provider.
Ten customers, made up of four domestic users, three standpipe customers and two commercial customers, including Adonko Bitters Company and an institution, were honoured.
The occasion was used to strengthen the partnership between the water company and its customers and to foster a sense of community and shared responsibility in water conservation.
The Regional Chief Manager of the GWL, Theophilus Tawiah Collins, expressed the company’s gratitude to the customers for their continued support and reliability which, he said, played a crucial role in the sustainability of water supply in the region and the operations of the company.
"We are proud to celebrate our loyal customers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment over the years. Your prompt payments ensure that we can continue to provide quality water services to the entire community,” he said.
Mr Collins said as part of its efforts to ease access to the services of the company, the Chief Regional Manager said GWL had introduced many innovative initiatives, including the introduction of the short code *1010# that “allows all to have swift service from GWL at the comfort of their homes without any extra charges and hassle”.
He said GWL was committed to delivering its mandate to the good people of the Ashanti North region and called on all to assist them in serving the region better.
He, however, said the refusal of some customers to pay their debt was hampering the effectiveness of service delivery, stating that currently, customers' indebtedness to the company stood at around GH¢40 million.
He, therefore, urged other users in the region to pay up their debt to enable the company to continue to provide them with potable water.
