The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana, (CIMG), has held its inaugural graduation and induction ceremony for 119 individuals who have completed various levels of the CIMG professional programme.
On behalf of the Governing Council, the National President of CIMG, Dr. Daniel Kasser Tee, extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduands and commended them for their resilience, intelligence and pursuit of knowledge.
He told the graduands that they did not only carry “the torch of professional skill development but also the ethics and values of the profession.”
He noted that the CIMG had a rich history of fostering collaboration, innovation and leadership and expressed the confidence that the graduands would embody those principles as they embarked on the next phase of their journey.
Dr Kasser Tee reminded them that their education was a powerful tool that equipped them to make a positive impact in their chosen field and in society as they stood on the threshold of new opportunities and challenges.
He urged them to embrace the possibilities that lay ahead of them with enthusiasm and have a thirst for continuous learning. He wished them boundless aspirations, fruitful endeavours and an everlasting impact wherever they found themselves.
The Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, Prof. Francis K. E. Nunoo, who represented the Minister of Education, expressed the importance of effective, strategic, and sustainable marketing education for the economy. He stated, “professional marketing education serves as a cornerstone for economic growth, innovation, and sustainability in any society. He said that in a dynamic and emerging economy like Ghana, its significance cannot be overstated.
Prof. Nunoo stated that by nurturing a pool of competent professional marketers, Ghana can stimulate domestic consumption, attract foreign investment, stir up economic recovery and foster entrepreneurship, all of which are essential for economic expansion and job creation.
According to him, “professional marketing education empowers skilled marketers to lead businesses to compete effectively in global markets. Through understanding global market trends, consumer preferences, and effective branding, Ghanaian firms can expand their reach beyond national borders, boosting exports and contributing to the country's balance of trade.”
The Consulting Director of Education at the CIMG, Mr. Adam Sulley, said that the graduation ceremony was a milestone for the institute. He recounted that the idea of graduating professional marketing students started about two decades ago, noting that the “difference and excitement with this one is the changeover of baton from CIM to CIMG”.
According to Mr. Sulley, the knowledge and experience acquired would surely yield the desired outcome of “providing industry with students who have the relevant marketing skills and mindset to ensure growth, competitiveness, and business sustainability.” He assured the industry that the graduates had the capacity to contribute to the success of organisations’ marketing requirements at various levels and in diverse ways”.
Mr. Sulley believed that the overwhelming positive feedback received through the CIMG pre-market test underscored the relevance and credibility of the programme, setting the stage for growth and impact on Ghana’s marketing industry.
“It is worth knowing that the CIMG pre-market test for PMQ by Consumer Insight Consult in December 2020 to evaluate the programme and courses indicated above 80% for likeness, relevance, and credibility across a sample of students, professionals, and industry”, he noted.
He pledged the Institute’s continuous collaboration with industry and all other stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement through their best practice feedback mechanism and quality assurance. Mr Sulley noted with pride that results for the December 2023 examinations had been released with an enviable average pass rate of 76%, indicating a 1% increase from the first four sessions.
Twenty Five (25) graduands out of the 119, emerged best in the various subject areas and were duly recognised and rewarded for their efforts.
