The Macallan, the world's most prestigious luxury whisky brand, has officially inaugurated its 200th-anniversary celebrations in Africa, commencing with a significant visit to Ghana by members of its leadership.
The team included Aristotelis Baroutsis, Managing Director, The Famous Grouse, Edrington and Miguel Ángel Soto, Head of Commercial, MEAI. Edrington arrived in Ghana to a warm reception, expressing gratitude for commencing this momentous journey in a nation known for its rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.
"Africa is a fundamental plain for us at The Macallan because many of the world's wealthiest consumers are here and their knowledge of single-malt whisky is ever evolving," shared Miguel Ángel Soto.
"Africa is quite an intriguing region for us as it is an opportunity to build on The Macallan's legacy. Meeting the people and learning about the market has been particularly exciting," Baroutsis added.
In attendance at the exclusive reception held in honour of the team at the Polo Club in Accra, were prominent personalities and Ghanaian whisky connoisseurs like Dr. Adrian Oddoye, Medical Director, Akai House Clinic; David Addo-Ashong, Partner, Ashong Benjamin & Associates; Maxine Reindorf-Partey, President & Founder, Ghana Invest; Ian Randolf, Chairperson, Grandorf Ltd; Nathaniel Jonah, CEO at Griffon Energy Africa; and Maxine Reindorf-Partey, President & Founder, Ghana Invest.
Also at the event was Abayomi Ajao, Customer Marketing Manager, West & North Africa. Edrington introduced attendees to The Macallan’s 200 years young campaign, with an unveiling of the logo. “The legacy of The Macallan will always lead as the anniversary is beyond a year-long celebration. Our customers can expect to see a lot of pleasant surprises all hinged on craftsmanship. The Macallan is 200 years young and it is a significant milestone. Our hope is that in hundreds of years to come, everyone will still be speaking about The Macallan”.
Reacting to the unveiling, an avid consumer of The Macallan, Dr. Adrian Oddoye said, “It’s exciting to see The Macallan turn 200 and to see it celebrated here in Ghana. The whisky connoisseurs here in Ghana are growing more discerning, trying to find out more about whisky, and they are intrigued by the different types of single-malts there are. It is indeed a great space to be. A lot of people understand that The Macallan makes great whisky and are probably looking to visit the distillery to get that experience”.
The anniversary celebration, according to Miguel Ángel Soto, Head of Commercial, MEAI, Edrington, promises exciting events, exclusive releases, and collaborations that will delight whisky enthusiasts and showcase The Macallan's enduring commitment to excellence.
