Many people prefer to maintain a natural body by keeping a natural complexion, and hair, and eating locally grown food. Similarly, when it comes to entertainment, some prefer artificial activities such as playing video games, while others prefer spending time in nature, such as taking a tour of the Mole National Park. The Mole National Park is a great location for those interested in flora and fauna, as it offers a wide range of natural beauty.
The Mole National Park is located in the northern region of Ghana, which is rich in Guinea savannah. It is one of the seven national parks in Ghana and is considered to be one of the most visited national parks in West Africa. The park covers an area of 4,577 square kilometers and boasts a diverse range of plants and animals. Visitors to the park can witness several different species of animals such as elephants, antelopes, baboons, buffalo, Kob, Western Hartebeest, Roan Antelope, Defassa Waterbuck, Oribi, Bohor Reedbuck, Red-flanked Duiker, Warthogs, and hyenas.
The Mole National Park is known for having the most viable population of elephants in the country. What's interesting is that these elephants are unique and friendly towards visitors, unlike other elephant species in Africa. The park is also home to rare and endangered species such as the Yellow-backed Duiker, Black and White Colobus Monkey, Leopard, and Lion. Additionally, the park boasts over 300 bird species, including the rare Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, more than 30 reptiles, and over a hundred butterfly species. Moreover, the park is abundant in various vascular plant species such as baobab, acacia, and shea trees.
Tourists can enjoy the refreshing flora and fauna of Mole National Park by engaging in activities such as game viewing, bird watching, informative walks, and camping. Accommodation facilities such as Ziana Lodge, Mole Motel, and Bigfoot Safari Lodge are available nearby for visitors who wish to stay overnight. Apart from touring the Mole National Park, tourists can also visit neighboring communities such as the Tamale Centre for National Culture, Wuling Mushroom Rock, and Daboya Smock Village for an enriching cultural experience.
The mission of Mole National Park is to manage Ghana's wildlife resources while creating job opportunities and promoting economic activities in the surrounding area to support local socio-economic development. In 2000, the park was included in UNESCO's Tentative List of World Heritage Properties.
