An innovative Blue Economy training project, championed by Initiative for Africa for the promotion of a sustainable future
The DOTCAN Institute, in partnership with Initiative for Africa, Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute, Biosfera 1, Sustainable Oceans Applied Research, and Ocean Startup Project, are excited to announce the launch of WYTEC Blue, a groundbreaking initiative for Women and Youth Technical Capacity for the Blue Economy. WYTEC Blue aims to grow technical capacity amongst women and youth in Canada and West Africa for the promotion of a safe, secure and sustainable blue economy. Partially funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this initiative premiers in key ocean economic hubs of Cabo Verde, Ghana and Nova Scotia. WYTEC Blue has received formal endorsement by the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC), as a project forming part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030. The call for applications is now open from the 24TH of October 2023 to the 12TH of November 2023. A Multidisciplinary and pratical approach
One of the distinguishing features of WYTEC Blue is its multidisciplinary approach. The WYTEC Blue training consists of two (2) separate courses on Ocean Technology and Maritime Safety and Risk Management. Both streams will share a Leadership and entrepreneurship module. Participants will benefit from a blend of theoretical understanding and practical applications on topics such as ocean sensors, sustainable aquaculture, Safety Management, Maritime Domain Awareness, Funding and Investment. This initiative will also provide participants with invaluable insights into regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessment, ensuring that they are well-prepared to address the complex challenges and opportunities presented by the blue economy.
