A number of journalists from various media houses in the Greater Accra region were trained on Data Health Governance. The training was organized by Curious Minds and Transformed Health. The one day training was to equip journalists from print, broadcast and online press with the skills to report on Data Health Campaign.
Curious Minds and Transform Health is calling for a global health data governance framework, underpinned by equity and rights based principles, to be developed and adopted by governments through a World Health Assembly resolution. It is vital that such a framework be developed through a transparent and inclusive multistakeholder process, including the meaningful engagement of civil society and communities.
The journalists were taken through some videos gathered from other countries in which individuals shared their concerns and experiences with the storage and access to their health data. The Journalists also received knowledge on the health data governance framework which seeks to educate and mobilize the public about their personal health data, its potential for public good, and the need for its governance. Ultimately the “My data Our Health Campaign” is raising awareness and galvanising action on the issue of health data and encouraging a public and political conversation on who determines how our health data is collected, managed, used and disposed of.
The training was an insightful and educative one because the journalists learnt about data health governance and the need to push the agenda for it to be implemented.
