China’s Grand Lisboa is one of the most iconic architectural feats the world has seen. It is a 5-star hotel located in Macau, a region on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. The building is the first tallest in Macau, the 293rd tallest in Asia, and the 484th tallest in the world.
Construction of the Grand Lisboa commenced in 2003 and was completed in 2008. It was designed by Hong Kong architects Dennis Lau and Ng Chun Man with the interiors created by Khuan Chew, Design Principal of KCA International. The building contains 430 hotel rooms and suites. It is 258m/846 feet tall and has 48 floors in all.
The Grand Lisboa was officially opened in December 2008. However, its casino and restaurants were opened in February 2007. The casino is comprised of a massive reflective dome and an ultramodern gold tower clocking 856 feet. It offers 270 gaming tables and over 700 slot machines to entertain guests. The Grand Lisboa was the first in Macau to offer Texas hold 'em poker ring games. It was also the first to offer craps in Macau.
Guests at the Grand Lisboa are fascinated with the different colours that light up the dome at night. The rooms match the exterior in their luxury with modern furniture, chandeliers, and LED lighting. Guests can also enjoy a magnificent view of Macau from the Robuchon au Dome, sited in the dome of the Grand Lisboa.
The Round-The-Clock Coffee Shop-Noodle & Congee Corner, for instance, allows guests to witness how traditional Chinese noodles are made. The hotel is connected to a business center, on-site restaurants (including Michelin-starred eateries), coffee shops/cafes, dry cleaning/laundry services, a gym, an outdoor heated pool, free in-room WiFi, and other interesting facilities.
