According to him, it was important for individuals to start small, grow it and make a difference even with their degrees because degrees could not guarantee a successful life.
Dr Gyasi gave the advice when he delivered a graduation speech at the 9thCongregation of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) yesterday in Accra.
He explained that it was important institutions added entrepreneurship as a course to their academics as it would in a way reduce unemployment in the country and must be given the needed attention.
“We are all proud of the degrees you have chalked today but that is not all life was about – there is more to that, you must strive to make a difference in the school of life because that has no end,” he said.
Dr Gyasi added that it was necessary for graduates to learn from the experiences of their lives in order to improve in the subsequent decisions in future because attaining a Degree, Masters and PhD would not be useful if we don’t learn from ourselves.
He advised that, there were no jobs in the country so graduates should use their skills and talents to work for themselves and not focus in a particular way that might make them redundant forever.
“We have different kinds of mindset and expectations when we attain a degree and that is what is causing lapses in the country, why can’t our degrees make us the best carpenters in the country,” he questioned.
On his part, the Chairman of Governing Council, Dr Louis Doe Atsiatome advising the 63 graduates said, now that they were going into the intellectual academy, they had to challenge and critique their minds as they do to others.
“You must keep learning and search for the truth always, the degrees and being a professor does not matter but being able to search for the truth and coming out of your best is what is needed in an intellectual academy,” he said.
The CIBT is a University College of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Ghana which run degree programmes.
CIBT is currently affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, for the award of degrees.
