He has, therefore, urged them not to rest on their oars in discharging their duties.

The Minister said this when the Police Ladies Association (POLAS), VoltaRegional wing executives paid a courtesy call on him at his office last Thursday.

The meeting led by the President, Superintendent of Police, (Supt) Effia Tenge was to brief the Minister on the Association’s 70^th anniversary celebration of women policing in Ghana and activities lined up to commemorate the programme.

Dr Letsa called on stakeholders to support security agencies to discharge their duties effectively.

“What men can do women do it better, it is the duty of men to support women to do better,” he added

He assured of his support to the regional wing to help them achieve their goals.

Supt Tenge in her briefing mentioned the challenges and achievements the first women who were enlisted in 1952 encountered.

The president stated that in initial stages, the role of women in policing was limited to dealing with juvenile delinquency, however, the role of women had expanded to the stage where women were now playing administrative roles in the service

“Women are now playing the role of station officers, district commanders and regional commanders, currently, there are four women serving on the Police Management Board,” she added.

Additionally, the executives of the Volta Regional POLAS visited the family houses of two police women who died in active service.

They lateInspector Patience Doe who died in January 2022 and Constable Catherine Tordey who passed in September 2021

The delegation presented a token of GH¢1,000 each to the family as contribution to their general welfare.

The executives last Thursday led members of the association to organise a clean-up exercise at the Ho Central Market, and the lorry station to mark their anniversary.

Additionally, the team also cleaned the premises of the Ho Teaching Hospital, including the walkways, car parks and gutters with support from newly passed constables.

Additionally, the members of the Association, made a donation of three air conditioners to Regional Police Training School at Ho, in recognition of the school’s contribution towards training of policewomen.

Similarly, the POLAS Volta wing together with women from the 66 artillery regiment, prisons, customs and the fire service embarked on a float from the Ho Central Police Station, through some principal streets in the Ho

The team also visited the children and spouses of two police ladies who died in active service last two years at Hohoe.
