As part of efforts to ensure that organizations prioritize data protection, respect privacy of staff and clients and act in accordance with the Data Protection Act, the Data Protection Commission (DPC) has announced their intention to offer accreditation to institutions interested in offering Certified Data Protection Supervisor(CDPS) Training as a service.
This follows the Commission's decision to scale up awareness creation on Data Protection especially among Data Controllers as well as make available, accredited institutions nationwide to take up the demand.
Speaking to Business Ghana about the exercise, Madam Patricia Adusei-Poku, Executive Director of the Commission said that "we would like to use well established training institutions that want to become experts in Data Protection Training and Awareness".
"Section 58 of the Data Protection Act 2012, Act 843 makes provision for the appointment of a Data Protection Supervisor who must be qualified and certified. It is against this background that the Commission is inviting eligible consultants to indicate their interest by writing to the Commission" she added.
For institutions to qualify, they must have a Certificate of Registration, a valid Tax Clearance Certificate, a Value Added Tax (VAT) Certificate, a valid Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Certificate and evidence of Registration with the Public Procurement Authority.
In addition, the training institutions must provide evidence that they have registered with the DPC and commenced their compliance report.
They must also appoint and train a data supervisor and have evidence of implementation of an internal privacy program, she added.
Madam Adusei Poku said that institutions that had all the basic requirements must write to the Commission by Friday, 28th February 2022.
