Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Ghana, on Tuesday 13th July, 2021, launched its 10th Anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of an anniversary logo.
Speaking on the theme “Doing the Ordinary in Extraordinary Ways”, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal called on the management of the hotel to place customer care as well as staff welfare as a priority because that would attract more people to patronize their services and set them apart in the industry. He noted that training and building capacity of workers should be paramount in the next 10years and beyond.
Dr Awal said that the cost of hotels in the country was too high. He said that his Ministry was working towards promoting domestic tourism and the only way that that could be achieved was to work on bringing hotel charges down. He encouraged hotel managers to reduce the cost of their services so as to make it affordable to everyone, thus ensuring, the growth of local tourism. He said that this would also make Ghana, the number one preferred tourist destination in Africa. He said that he looked forward to more Ghanaian foods served at our hotels and to see more Ghanaian hotel managers, chefs and cooks manage the big hotels in the country and in Africa.
The Minister appealed to hoteliers to continue to observe the Covid protocols
The General Manager of Movenpick, Deborah Lee Ann Sivertsen, said that Ghana was known for its genuine and warm hospitality and that these values were what defined the Movenpick brand which included demonstrating quality and care for the guests.
She said that her outfit is committed to sustainability and environmental awareness.
Activities planned for the celebrations include a blood donation exercise in conjunction with the Accra Technical University; charity work at the Princess Marie Louise hospital; clean up exercises; a food festival and a corporate soirée .
The event was attended by Mr Mark Okraku Mantey, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell, Ayibge Edem a musician and Prince David Osei an actor. There was a poem recitation by Lailatu Moro and music performance by the Movenpick Choir. The MC for the event was Kafui Dey.
