The Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Mr Worlanyo K. Siabi has announced the engagement of 1,200 new employees by the agency to augment its activities.

The 1,200 newly employed, have been deployed countrywide to help in the delivery of quality water in its operational communities and towns to contribute towards the government’s agenda of job creation and also to fulfill the United Nations Sustainable Development goal six (6) of which Ghana is a signatory.

Mr Siabi announced this during a meeting with the network of partners in the water sector to strategise towards a more vibrant sanitation and water sector at CWSA conference room on December 22, 2020.

According to him, the move will bring back to life non-functional water facilities in the rural communities and small towns to safeguard the huge investment made by government and development partners in the sub sector for a more sustainable delivery of safe and affordable water to all.

He expressed profound satisfaction in its relationship with partner organizations, key among them is the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for their consistent support in ensuring a successful reformation of the agency to becoming self-reliant in building a robust and an improved water and sanitation sector.

According to Mr Siabi, the relationship between CWSA and KNUST has helped to bridge the skills gap and may further help in attracting professionals to the sector owing to the skills training programmes enhanced by the collaboration.

“Though climate change issues among some other negative occurrences, have seen the lowering of our water tables reducing in yields, the agency is poised to change its operational approach using a new model to sustain the sector” he opined.

Professor Esi Awuah of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who chaired the meeting requested Ghana Standards Board to review and revise their operations especially on payments to obtain standards.

According to her, people are reluctant to request for standards due to the fee-paying modalities adopted by the GSB, hence the need to re-evaluate it to encourage patronize of their services for the good of all.

Professor Awuah pledged the support of KNUST and requested for personnel to be invigorated into further studies to help CWSA make more strides in its activities.

The meeting brought together its stakeholders key which included the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, KNUST, Ghana Water Company Limited, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the host CWSA
