The maiden batch of 224 Ghanaians who were stranded in the United Kingdom because of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and border closures have been evacuated successfully back home.

The returnees who, arrived on Wednesday at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra were made up of 108 males, 103 females and 13 children.

As part of measures to contain the spread of the disease, the returnees are currently going through the 14 days mandatory quarantine.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Government would be evacuating back home more Ghanaians, in the coming days, who are stranded in other countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Evacuations from the United States will begin next week.
