The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has announced that some 250 Ghanaians are due in the country from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today [Tuesday, June 16, 2020].

Additionally, the Minister at a press briefing said some 400 Ghanaians are due in the country from countries including Burkina Faso, Lebanon and China.

According to her, they will be quarantined on their arrival in the country, subject to the coronavirus prevention protocols.

“On Friday, June 19, 13 Ghanaians are expected to arrive from Burkina Faso while 195 are expected from Lebanon,” the Minister said.

She added that some Ghanaians stranded in New York and Washington DC in the US and China are expected at the end of the month.

“Ghanaians are also expected from Guangzhou in Southern China; others are expected from other parts of Africa,” she said.

“Let me conclude by saying the government of Ghana is committed to successfully bring back our nationals who are stranded outside because of obvious reasons…”.

President Akufo-Addo on May 31 announced that country’s borders remain closed as part of the precautionary measures instituted to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease in Ghana.

Ghana has recorded 229 new cases of the Coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of cases to 12,193 with 4326 recoveries and 58 deaths.
