Mr Alexander Tetteh, President of the Centre for Employment of Persons with Disabilities, has appealed to government and businesses to create employment for Persons with Disabilities.

This, he said, would help curb begging on the streets in the country, make them self-reliant and live meaningful lives.
Mr Tetteh made the appeal when BigCash Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and its partners, 'Add Your Voice Now' donated items to some of the members of the Centre in Accra on Monday.

The items included maize, Gari, beans, rice, bags of sachet water, cooking oil, frozen meat and fish.
Mr Tetteh said the Centre, after training the Persons with Disabilities, found it very difficult securing employment for them due to the nature of the condition of their health.

He expressed the hope that the appeal would receive the necessary attention and also called on private organizations to come to the aid of the Centre.

Mr Moses Tovor, Instructor of the Tailoring Department of the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, also appealed to the government and NGOs to provide the Department with training materials and equipment as many of their machines have broken down.

Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, said the donation formed part of the NGO's Covid-19 Food Programme launched two months ago and also in remembrance of Mr Jamil Brookins, a business partner, who died two years ago.
He gave the assurance that the NGO would continue to support the Centre to enable it to function effectively.
